Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
When accidents like this happen, it’s easy for people to assume they are the result of a simple mistake or bad luck. However, based on my experience, accidents involving large vehicles, such as pickup trucks with trailers, often have deeper, more complex causes that require thorough investigation.
In this case, it’s essential to understand why the truck driver attempted such a risky maneuver, turning from the wrong lane. Was the driver distracted, in a hurry, or unfamiliar with the area? These possibilities must be carefully examined to determine what truly caused the collision.
Additionally, the investigation should consider the possibility of inadequate training or failure to follow traffic laws on the part of the driver. Large vehicles like this one require greater caution, particularly when hauling a trailer. If the driver’s actions were reckless or if the company responsible for the truck failed to ensure proper training and adherence to safety protocols, they may bear significant responsibility for the accident.
When examining accidents like this, it’s important to consider the potential liability of any company involved, especially if the truck was a commercial vehicle. If the pickup truck was operated by a business, that company might share responsibility for the crash. Companies have a duty to ensure that their drivers are properly trained, adhere to safety protocols, and follow all traffic laws. If the company failed in these duties—whether by cutting corners on training, neglecting to enforce safe driving practices, or pushing drivers to meet tight deadlines—they could be held accountable for their role in contributing to the accident.
Ultimately, the goal is to uncover the truth and provide answers to those affected by the crash. Even if it requires conducting an independent investigation to obtain vital evidence, it is crucial to consider every factor to ensure that those impacted by the crash receive the clarity and closure they deserve.
