How Did This Accident Occur?
After a single-vehicle crash like this, most people probably assume it was caused by a driver error or fatigue. That may prove to be the case, but I’ve been part of enough accident investigations in my career to know that it is better to rely on facts than assumptions in figure out how a crash happened. Those facts will come from a proper investigation of the crash.
Investigators likely will rely on physical evidence, witness statements, data from the vehicle and any available video footage to reconstruct this accident. Cell phone records could if the driver was distracted at the time fo the crash.
If authorities suspect a mechanical issue contributed to this accident, which isn’t an unlikely possibility with a 40-year-old vehicle, a forensic examination must be completed before the Jeep is repaired or scrapped. That kind of inspection is beyond the capabilities of most law enforcement agencies, in my experience, but the driver’s family deserves to get a full picture of what happened on Big Tank Road.
