Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

With a crash like this, it’s important to know if investigators looked into anything beyond the most common factors. I’ve seen crashes like this happen for all kinds of extenuating circumstances. Mechanical defect, road hazards, drivers illegally over-served by a bar, hit-and-runs, tire failure, etc. Not all of these possibilities are common, but they’ve caused wrecks before. The challenge is that authorities sometimes don’t bother considering less common possible factors, allowing crucial evidence to slip through the cracks. This might not be one of those times—I certainly hope it isn’t. Otherwise, there could still be more to this story.
