How Did This Accident Occur?
It’s not clear at this point how this crash happened. Was there some kind of traffic signal at this intersection? Which vehicle had the right of way? Was one driver distracted, perhaps by a cell phone? Did either vehicle have a problem with its brakes or steering mechanism? I don’t claim to know the answer to these questions about reading initial accounts of this crash, but I know these are the scenarios that investigators must consider as they work to reconstruct this accident.
Investigators likely will start by reviewing physical evidence, witness statements, data from the vehicles and any available video footage. Cell phone records could show what each driver was doing at the time.
If initial reports are accurate, authorities also should look into why a 15-year-old was operating a commercial vehicle.
