El Paso, TX — November 17, 2023, Mauricio Miranda was killed due to a motorcycle versus pickup accident at around 11:30 p.m. on Paisano Street.
Details released by officials say that the crash happened at the intersection of East Paisano Street and El Paso Drive.
It appears that 28-year-old Mauricio Miranda was on a motorcycle going northbound along Paisano crossing El Paso Drive. At the same time, a westbound Dodge Ram was crossing Paisano. The vehicles collided in the crossing, killing Miranda.

While authorities allege that the motorcycle had a red light at the time, they also say they arrested the pickup driver for allegedly driving while intoxicated. Records suggest that driver may have been nearly twice the legal limit for blood-alcohol content.
To be clear up front, this is all based on preliminary public information from the authorities. It’s not for me to say what is or isn’t true without clear evidence. But when I see a deadly motorcycle wreck, and the other driver is arrested for drunk driving (nearly twice the limit, no less), it’s not often that the victim is the one ultimately found to be at fault for the crash. It’s not impossible, of course, but it is rather unlikely. I can’t help wondering if this situation is really one of those exceptions or if perhaps there’s more to this story authorities failed to mention.
