El Paso, TX — July 8, 2024, Matthew Perez was killed following a truck accident shortly before 1:45 p.m. along Ascension Street.
According to authorities, 22-year-old Matthew Perez was traveling in a southbound Nissan Sentra on Ascension Street at the Rio Penasco Avenue intersection when the accident took place.
Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, a westbound 18-wheeler on Rio Penasco Avenue failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign, entering the intersection at an apparently unsafe time. This resulted in a collision between the front-end of the Nissan and the front-right side of the 18-wheeler’s trailer.
Perez suffered critical injuries due to the crash; he was transported to a local medical facility by EMS in order to receive immediate treatment. However, he was ultimately unable to overcome the extent of his injuries, having there been declared deceased. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time.
