Johnson County, TX — June 30, 2023, Matthew McClendon was injured by an alleged drunk driver around 11:50 p.m. on F.M. 2280 in Johnson County.

According to authorities, Mr. McClendon’s Dodge Durango was traveling west on F.M. 917 approaching railroad tracks and where the road changes names to F.M. 2280 when an eastbound Ford Expedition allegedly attempted to cross the train tracks as the railroad lights were flashing and the crossing arms were coming down. The Expedition reportedly veered out of its lane during its race with the train and collided with McClendon’s Dodge Durango in a front off-set crash.

Investigators say Matthew McClendon sustained serious injuries, the Expedition driver suffered minor injuries, and the two children passengers of the Expedition were uninjured.

Police recommended charging the Expedition with driving while intoxicated with child younger than 15.
