Upshur County, TX — December 13, 2023, Maryam Jones was killed following a pedestrian versus car accident just after 6:30 a.m. along State Highway 155.

According to authorities, 44-year-old Maryam Jones, of Big Sandy, was on foot crossing S.H. 155 in front of a stopped, northeast facing school bus that had its stop signs out and flashing red lights activated in the vicinity northeast of Mulberry Road when the accident took place.

Officials indicate that—for unknown reasons—a southwest bound Ram 2500 pickup truck neglected the bus’s signage and lights, continuing to drive past it. The pickup reportedly collided with Jones in the roadway with its front-end. She came to rest in the middle of the northeast bound lane of the highway some distance behind the bus. The pickup truck came to a stop disabled on the northwest shoulder. Reports state that Jones incurred fatal injuries as a result of the collision and was declared deceased at the scene.
