Hiawassee, GA — July 7, 2023, Mark Savage was killed and Jeremy Dalton, a truck driver, and two kids were hurt due to a dump truck accident at 1:00 p.m. along State Route 17.
According to initial details about the crash, it took place in the Hiawassee area while the victims were apparently on their way home from a water park.
Details say that 63-year-old Mark Savage, his son-in-law 41-year-old Jeremy Dalton, and two children, ages 11 and 10, were in a GMC Sierra that was going southbound on the highway. While rounding a curve, police say that a dump truck in the northbound lanes may have “experienced a mechanical issue.” This led to the dump truck going into the oncoming lanes of travel where it hit the Sierra head on.
As a result of the collision, Savage sustained fatal injuries. Dalton and the two children were taken to various hospitals with injuries believed to be serious. The dump truck driver also apparently had serious injuries. It’s unclear who else, if anyone, was hurt.
Authorities have yet to release additional details about the fatal truck wreck. Investigations are ongoing at this time.
