One of the biggest concerns with single-vehicle wrecks is that people tend to jump to conclusions. On top of that, people are generally biased against young drivers. The result is that accidents like this don’t always get the attention they deserve, and that means important details may slip through the cracks.
Simply put, all kinds of factors can lead to a serious accident. Some possibilities drivers have no control over, such as mechanical defects, road flaws, tire blowouts, or medical emergencies. Others may contribute alongside more common factors, such as drivers over-served by an alcohol provider or defective safety devices contributing to serious injuries.
Is it more likely for a single-vehicle crash to simply be the result of driver error? Of course. In fact, it’s the most common explanation. But when people jump to conclusions, it can allow important details to slip through the cracks in a time when victims and families most need help. Giving them the benefit of the doubt can help to ensure the evidence has a chance to speak for itself. I see no reason right now why this accident wouldn’t be the same.
