Currently, authorities are alleging that the victim was under the influence of alcohol when the crash occurred. However, they didn’t mention any other steps they took to find out what happened here. If they think alcohol was a factor, did they bother looking into where that alcohol came from?
On this blog, I talk about negligent alcohol providers a lot because I’ve dealt with them for decades now. Too many of them get away with breaking the law and contributing to crashes like this because authorities suspect a driver was intoxicated, and they deem that to be the end of the story. But if a local business broke the law and contributed to someone’s death, shouldn’t they be held accountable for that? Texas law certainly says so, which is why it’s frustrating anytime my team and I are investigating a bar for a wrongful death case only to find they aren’t even on the authorities’ radar.
To be clear, these are unconfirmed allegations right now, and I can’t say what did or didn’t happen here. But I’ve seen too many examples of authorities dropping the ball on crashes like these to feel confident that these public statements come anywhere close to telling the whole story. Were authorities here among the more prudent ones who actually do their due diligence to get the whole story?
