Hidalgo County, TX — August 5, 2024, Margarita Cantu and two others were injured in a car accident at approximately 12:30 p.m. along I.H. 2.

According to authorities, 40-year-old Margarita Cantu and a 43-year-old man were traveling in a westbound BMW on the Interstate Highway 2 frontage road in the vicinity west of Hoerner Street when the accident took place.

Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, a Jeep pickup truck occupied by a 16-year-old boy attempted a lane change at an apparently unsafe time, leading to a collision between the front-right of the Jeep and the back-left of the BMW. The impact caused the BMW to go into a spin and enter another westbound lane where it was involved in a secondary collision with a Honda Odyssey minivan.

Cantu suffered reportedly serious injuries as a result of the wreck, while the man who was with her in the BMW and the boy from the Jeep sustained minor injuries. They were each transported to local medical facilities by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment. No other injuries have been reported. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
