Cameron County, TX — November 18, 2023, Marcus Jose Vigil was killed following a pedestrian accident at around 4:23 a.m. on Ed Carey Drive.
Preliminary details about the accident say that the collision happened off the corner of Loop 499/North Ed Carey Drive and Business 77/Sunshine Strip.
According to officials, 22-year-old Marcus Jose Vigil was on foot at the time and apparently in the center lane of northbound Ed Carey Drive. While there, a vehicle struck Vigil, causing fatal injuries. The driver appears to have remained at the scene to speak with authorities. Factors leading up to the collision remain unclear at this time.

There isn’t much more information available right now, but I see from what I’ve found online that there are a lot of businesses surrounding this intersection. Maybe it was too dark to see, but did authorities look for nearby surveillance footage that could help show what happened here? If nothing else, it could be a crucial step in ensuring the victim’s loved ones know they’re getting the whole story.
