Palestine, TX — April 12, 2024, Marcos Sanchez was killed following an alleged drunk driver accident at around 12:20 a.m. along Crockett Road.
Authorities said in preliminary statements that the crash happened in the 800 block of Crockett at Hunter Drive.
It appears 51-year-old Marcos Sanchez was on foot at the time off the side of Crockett taking out his trash. While there, a vehicle that was going northbound on Crockett lost control, crossed oncoming lanes, and hopped the curb. As a result, it struck Sanchez, then crashed into a telephone pole.
Sanchez was killed due to the collision.

The driver was allegedly intoxicated at the time of the accident. Authorities reported charges including Intoxicated Manslaughter. What I’m wondering is if authorities are also looking into where this alleged alcohol came from and if a local bar had a hand in this man’s death.
Put simply, negligent bars and other alcohol providers break the law and contribute to deadly wrecks all the time in Texas. They, too, can be held accountable, whether that’s through criminal charges, holding them liable for the resulting accidents, or fining them or suspending their license to serve alcohol. Despite these different avenues, though, alcohol providers often get away with their recklessness.
I’ve handled hundreds of cases against negligent alcohol providers, and most of my clients didn’t even know alcohol providers could be held accountable until we brought it up. Authorities weren’t looking into the servers, they weren’t passing information along for the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission to investigate, nothing.
It’s a shame because after those cases, those alcohol providers cleaned up their act. Once they actually faced consequences, they stopped putting lives at risk. If authorities were more proactive in investigating beyond just the crash scene, they might prevent accidents like this one. At the very least, they could see there are appropriate consequences for all parties involved in a man’s senseless death.
