Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
People might think that someone being blamed for the crash makes all of this open-and-shut. On the contrary, car accident can always present unique challenges for investigators. The question is if authorities are taking the investigations seriously enough to handle those challenges when they come up.
I talk to people all the time who are shocked when they wait for authorities to investigate a crash only for them to come up empty-handed. It can take a significant time and resource investment to dig into an accident, and sometimes authorities just prioritize other things more. That’s when independent investigators often have to step in and pick up the slack.
If authorities were more thorough here and left no stone unturned, that’s good. My point is simply that folks shouldn’t take that sort of effort for granted. Instead, they should take steps to make sure someone is actually digging into the facts and focusing on getting answers.
