A vehicle had reportedly come to a stop in the left-most of the two northbound lanes in order to make a safe left turn into a private drive. Officials indicate that a northbound Toyota Rav4 occupied by a 69-year-old woman failed to appropriately control its speed as it approached the stopped vehicle; it reportedly swerved to the right in order to avoid a collision partially leaving the right side of the roadway. It then overcorrected to the left, crossing over both northbound lanes and entering the southbound lanes of the highway. There, it was involved in a collision with the oncoming pickup truck. The impact caused the Toyota to go into a counterclockwise spin, leading to a secondary collision with a southbound Nissan Frontier occupied by a 38-year-old man. The wreck apparently caused the Toyota to catch on fire.

The woman from the Toyota suffered fatal injuries as a result of the wreck, according to reports. Gustin sustained serious injuries and the man from the Frontier incurred moderate injuries, as well. They were transported to local medical facilities by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
