Smith County, TX — July 10, 2024, a Longview man was killed following a car accident at around 4:25 p.m. along Farm-to-Market 2908.
Authorities say they were called to the scene northeast of Tyler near the F.M. 2908 and U.S. 271 intersection.

Investigators said that a 43-year-old Longview man was in a Honda Civic going northbound along F.M. 2908. For reasons not confirmed, the vehicle careened off the side of the road where it overturned. The vehicle then slammed into a tree, and the Longview man was killed. There did not appear to be anyone else involved in the accident.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
With a single-vehicle wreck like this, my concern is always whether or not the accident ever got the attention it deserved. Frankly, authorities don’t always see this sort of accident as a high priority. This can lead to them missing important details anytime a relatively complex series of events leads to an accident.
There may have been mechanical issues. The driver may have had complications due to medical conditions. They may have been unlawfully over-served by an alcohol provider. The road itself could have design flaws or hazardous conditions local officials haven’t addressed.
Likely or not, there are possible causes to a single-vehicle crash besides just fatigue or distraction. The priority should be to gather as much evidence as possible and to let that evidence speak for itself. Otherwise, the victim’s loved ones could be left looking for answers that a more thorough investigation could have provided.
