According to officials, 54-year-old Lisa Lynette Francis was walking at the time on the sidewalk along northbound Georgian Drive. From the roadway, a northbound Honda Civic somehow left the roadway and struck Francis as she waited to cross at the crosswalk. Due to this, Francis was seriously injured. Authorities allege the runaway driver was under the influence of alcohol and recommended a charge for intoxication assault. If those allegations are true, it would no doubt call for appropriate consequences. But if all of the focus rests solely on the alleged drunk driver, there could be another wrongdoer who slips through the cracks: whoever provided the alcohol to the driver. It doesn’t get much attention, but alcohol providers in Texas can be on the hook when someone they illegally over-serve causes an accident.

I’ve had hundreds of cases against said negligent alcohol providers, and there simply is no shortage of them all around the state. One likely wouldn’t know that, though, just relying on police investigations. They too often put all of the blame on the drivers and let the alcohol providers off the hook. Hopefully steps were taken here to be more thorough and ensure all responsible parties face consequences.
