Dallas, TX — June 15, 2024, Likayla Turner was injured following a vehicle versus pedestrian accident at around 2:30 a.m. along I-35E.
Authorities said in preliminary statements that the accident happened on southbound lanes of the interstate in the area of Empire Central Drive.
Investigators said that 26-year-old Likayla Turner was on foot at the time outside a pair of vehicles that were stationary in the lanes of travel for unspecified reasons. Approaching that scene, a Chevy Impala reportedly failed to avoid the scene and crashed into the stationary vehicles, hitting Turner in the process. The driver of the Chevy then reportedly fled the scene on foot. It’s unclear if authorities ever identified or arrested the suspect.

With the suspect’s vehicle in possession, it’s usually just a matter of time before authorities make an arrest. Hopefully they’ve already done so and just haven’t said anything to the public. Either way, once authorities do catch the driver, it’s important to find out why the driver left the scene. At 2:30 a.m., there’s a very strong possibility that the driver was coming from a local bar, which could result in further consequences that need to be addressed. At the end of the day, someone was seriously hurt here. That warrants every step to address the mistakes leading up to that accident.
