They were 76-year-old Lewis Tarrant and 72-year-old Eileen Riordan. The third victim was a semi-truck driver, 63-year-old Bogdan Jutrznia. The cause of the crash remains unconfirmed, and it’s unclear what possible factors authorities are considering at this time.
Box Elder County, UT — March 27, 2023, three people were killed as the result of a semi-truck accident on I-15 in the area of South Willard.
Authorities gave initial details saying the incident happened near mile marker 351 of northbound lanes of the interstate. There appeared to be traffic due to a prior crash when a semi-truck apparently rear-ended a car. This caused a chain-reaction crash involving at least two other semis.

Three people died as a result of the crash. They were the drivers of the car and the first semi as well as a passenger from the car. Additional details about potential injuries is unclear at this time.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
I certainly don’t know anything more about this accident than what’s already in the news. But one thing that often concerns me is seeing fatal wrecks while there is snow, ice, or rain in the area. This can sometimes lead to authorities overlooking important information because they just assume the accident was weather related. Even in situations where weather is a factor, it’s more often secondary or tertiary to a more serious factor that led to the crash, such as speeding, medical emergencies, or worn tires.
My hope going forward is that authorities handling this situation know better than that and will take steps to ensure they leave no stone unturned. Doing so will no doubt be a vital step toward getting the victims’ loved ones the answers they deserve.
