Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
With a multi-vehicle collision like this, investigations need to be as careful as possible to ensure nothing important slips through the cracks. There are debris patterns, road conditions, vehicle data and defect inspections for each vehicle, cell phone records, footage from nearby cameras, statements from everyone involved and any potential witnesses, etc. In all of that chaos, it could be easy for an officer to miss something if they’re not given the time and equipment they need to do their jobs properly.
That’s why it’s important in situations like this for victims and families to gauge whether or not they feel they’re getting the full story. If it seems like there are gaps in the story, that may be a sign that the crash needs another set of eyes looking things over.
