People tend to think car accidents are simple because of how common they are. What not a lot of people consider, though, is that accident investigations aren’t always handled properly. This can lead to important details slipping through the cracks even in seemingly simple situations.
For example, I had a case a while back involving two cars crashing at a light. Both drivers accused each other of running the light. The officer, though, was rushed to move on to other responsibilities, so he basically left the drivers on their own to sort things out. One of them contacted us, and in no time at all we found that a nearby business had a camera with a view of the intersection. It showed the other driver run the light, and that was that.
Unfortunately, it’s common for these sorts of oversights to occur. Sometimes, authorities are thorough and leave no stone unturned. Other times, they overlook all kinds of important details. This is why it’s often helpful for victims and families to follow up with the authorities to see if they can address all of their doubts and concerns. If they can’t, there may need to be more thorough investigations.
