Laura Sanders Killed in Alleged DWI Accident in Amarillo, TX

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

Authorities did not specify if they believe this to be drug or alcohol related. While this may seem earlier than most drunk driving wrecks, though, it’s a lot more common on a Saturday at this time than it would be during the week. I, like countless others in Texas, am sick and tired of seeing mothers, fathers, children, friends, and others killed because someone decided to do something as ridiculously stupid as get behind the wheel while intoxicated.

That’s what drives me to bring attention to terrible accidents like this one. It’s not enough to just assume a driver will be held accountable, and that’s that. It’s important to find out if local alcohol providers are responsible for over-serving that driver, of authorities are doing enough to curb intoxicated driving, if local officials are ignoring calls for better public transit to reduce these kinds of accidents, if folks in the community are doing what they can to discourage this reckless behavior and encourage responsible drinking, and so on.

In the meantime, it’s going to take further efforts to ensure nothing slips through the cracks here. Not only does the family devastated by this incident deserve to know the full story, but they deserve to know that all responsible parties are going to face the appropriate consequences.
