Colorado County, TX — August 23, 2024, a Laredo man and one other were injured as the result of a dual 18-wheeler accident at 2:30 a.m. on Interstate 10.
Investigators said in preliminary statements that the accident happened along the eastbound lanes of I-10 by the rest stop off F.M. 2434, west of Columbus.

According to officials, a 26-year-old Laredo man was in a Volvo semi-trailer going along I-10. Another Freightliner tractor-trailer was up ahead. For reasons which aren’t clear right now, the Volvo crashed into the back of the other 18-wheeler.
The Laredo man was seriously injured as a result of the crash. The Freightliner driver, a 45-year-old man, had reportedly moderate injuries. Additional details about the accident are unavailable at this time.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
People might be quick to assume this incident is open-and-shut since it’s a rear-end collision. For one, it’s a misconception that someone is automatically at fault when they rear-end someone. Second, no crash involving a commercial truck is going to be simple, let alone a crash involving two.
Not only do investigators have to examine the massive, complex machines involved in the crash, they also have to investigate the employers involved. Did the crash happen due to unreasonable hours? Was there overweight cargo involved? Did negligent hiring or training practices contribute? Was this the result of a mechanical issue that routine maintenance could have prevented?
These are the kinds of questions I expect answers to when I handle truck accident cases. If authorities aren’t providing those answers, they may not be handling the investigations properly.
