Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

When accidents like this happen, it’s easy for people to assume they result from a momentary lapse in judgment or bad timing. However, based on my experience, multi-vehicle crashes involving large trucks, especially with multiple fatalities, often involve more complex factors that require thorough investigation. This collision on Interstate 40 is no exception.

Given the involvement of an 18-wheeler, investigators will need to determine what role the truck played in the chain of events. Was the truck driver distracted, fatigued, or speeding? Did mechanical issues, such as brake failure, contribute to the wreck? Additionally, the actions of all four vehicles leading up to the crash need to be carefully examined to understand how the accident unfolded. Collisions involving multiple vehicles can be chaotic, and determining fault in these situations requires a detailed analysis of every driver’s behavior and the conditions on the road at the time.

If the 18-wheeler was operating under a commercial company, it’s essential to examine whether the company followed proper safety protocols. This includes ensuring that the truck was well-maintained and that the driver received adequate training and was adhering to safe driving practices. Any lapses in these areas could point to shared responsibility for the accident.

Ultimately, the goal is to uncover the truth and provide answers to those affected by the crash. Even if it requires conducting an independent investigation to obtain vital evidence, it is crucial to explore every factor to ensure that those impacted by the accident receive the clarity and closure they deserve.
