Lubbock, TX — March 24, 2023, Keyanna English-King was fatally injured as the result of an accident on 19th Street, after which a driver allegedly fled.
Preliminary information provided by authorities says that the incident happened just after 11:30 p.m. off the corner of 19th Street and Kelsey Avenue. Statements said that 20-year-old Keyanna English-King was walking along 19th at the time. For reasons unclear, an SUV hit English-King, resulting in fatal injuries.

As of April 4, authorities say the suspected runaway driver turned themselves in to police custody. That person faces a charge for failure to stop and render aid causing death. No further information surrounding the crash is available.

If the police have the right person here, it’s at least encouraging to see the driver facing up to their responsibility. They’ll no doubt have their day in court to answer for their actions. But are those answers going to shed light on why they left the scene? Was it really just panic, or could it be something more seriously like drunk driving led to a young woman losing her life? If nothing else, here loved ones deserve to know the whole story.
