My hope is that authorities actually give this accident the attention it deserves. Unfortunately, single-vehicle accidents aren’t always taken seriously, and that often leaves families with unanswered questions and doubts in a time when they most deserve some answers.
It’s one of the reasons independent investigations are such a vital tool after a deadly accident. I’ve been handling serious car accident cases for over 30 years, and independent accident reconstructionists are about as reliable and thorough as it gets. While people tend to trust authorities will get all the facts, many departments actually rely on independent investigators to handle complex possible factors authorities aren’t equipped to look into. Was there a mechanical defect? Is there an issue with the roadway? Is there missing signage or insufficient lighting? Did authorities overlook details that could suggest another driver was involved?
Likely or not, these are just some of the many possible factors that are important to consider after an accident. Otherwise, there’s no telling what could slip through the cracks. I’ve seen plenty of independent investigations come back and say authorities already did a good job. That alone can be a significant weight off a family’s minds. Otherwise, if there is more to the story, it needs to come to light sooner rather than later.
