How Did This Accident Occur?
For most people, it’s hard to imagine how someone could get hit by a truck in an area that is often off-limits to pedestrians. But I’ve seen incidents like this many times in my career.
At this point, it’s not clear what the man was doing before the crash. Was he a spotter who had been helping the truck back up to dock, or was he walking somewhere contractors were not supposed to be?
Did the truck back into him, or did it roll unexpectedly after it was stopped?
That is why a thorough investigation is needed. Witness statements, evidence from the scene and data from the truck’s engine control module should help, along with a review of the company’s safety protocols and any available security camera footage.
