Montgomery County, TX — April 13, 2024, Keith Ozan was injured as the result of a car accident at around 8:52 p.m. along Highway 242.
Investigators said in preliminary statements that the crash took place at the Highway 242 and I-45 interchange.

It appears that 39-year-old Keith Ozan was in a Toyota Tundra traveling westbound on the flyover ramp to go southbound on the interstate. While doing so, the vehicle came into contact an Acura Ozan was reportedly passing. This caused the pickup to hit the side barrier, then overturn along the lanes of travel.

Authorities claim that Ozan hadn’t been wearing a seatbelt and was seriously injured as a result. I have to wonder if there’s evidence to support that, or if they’re just jumping to conclusions. Let me explain why I say that.
To be clear up front, I know nothing about this specific wreck beyond what’s already public. Generally speaking, though, authorities aren’t very thorough in their crash investigations. Saying something like a driver not using a seatbelt is often a conclusion they reach just because the driver was thrown from their seat. Well, in a case we handled not long ago, that happened because the driver’s seatbelt was defective. Authorities didn’t have the tools or training to investigate that, so they instead jumped to conclusions and blamed the victim for something beyond their control.
Maybe nothing like that happened here, but it’s an example of why preliminary crash investigations should always be taken with a grain of salt. I see no reason why this crash would be an exception.
