Westbury, NY — July 16, 2025, a man sustained injuries as the result of an accident involving an MRI machine around 4:34 p.m. off Old Country Road.
Preliminary statements say that the incident happened at Nassau Open MRI, located off Old Country Road and Fulton Street.

According to initial investigations, a 61-year-old man was in the imaging center at the time, though it’s unclear if he was a patient. Authorities say the man entered in MRI room without authorization. The MRI was operating at the time, and the man was pulled by the machine due to a metal necklace around his neck, authorities said.
As a result of this incident, the man was either injured directly or suffered a “medical episode” as a result. No other injuries were reported. Additional details about the accident are unclear at this time.

There are certainly a lot of unanswered questions here, primarily concerning how someone was able to enter an MRI room without being allowed to. It’s possible there were extenuating circumstances that staff and the business’s managers couldn’t possibly foresee. But if there were steps which could have prevented this, it’s worth finding out why they weren’t taken and whether or not they will be taken in the future to prevent other incidents.
