Lauderdale County, MS — May 31, 2023, Kaycee Williams, Kent Holcombe, Anthony Newell, and Jennifer McCoy were killed after a multi-truck accident on I-20.
Authorities with the Mississippi Highway Patrol said that the incident happened at around 10:20 a.m. just outside of Meridian at the I-20 and I-59 interchange.
According to preliminary statements about the crash, 42-year-old Kaycee Williams and 59-year-old Kent Holcombe were in a car that was going eastbound along I-20. 37-year-old Anthony Newell and 36-year-old Jennifer McCoy were in an International log truck.
Ahead of them, details suggest that a Volvo 18-wheeler and a Peterbilt 18-wheeler “were stopped” for unspecified reasons. Somehow, Williams and Holcombe’s car crashed into the Peterbilt. The International truck afterward crashed into the car and the Peterbilt. This then sent the Peterbilt forward where it struck the Volvo.
As a result of the collisions, Williams, Holcombe, Newell, and McCoy all succumbed to fatal injures at the scene of the crash. No other injuries were reported. At this time, the factors leading up to the crash are unclear.
