Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, a westbound GMC pickup truck occupied by a 17-year-old boy failed to safely maintain its lane of travel. It reportedly veered left, crossing over the center turn lane and into the eastbound lanes of traffic. This resulted in a head-on collision between the GMC and the Isuzu. The Isuzu overturned as a result of the collision, coming to a stop facing south and resting on its left side. The pickup truck apparently spun clockwise and was involved in a secondary collision; the back left side of the GMC was struck by the front-end of an eastbound Chevrolet pickup truck.

Orozco incurred reportedly fatal injuries as a result of the wreck. The 27-year-old man from the Isuzu and the 17-year-old boy from the GMC both sustained suspected severe injuries; they were transported to local medical facilities by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment. No other injuries have been reported.
