In my experience with serious crashes like this, they’re generally better off in the hands of independent accident reconstructionists. I know folks sometimes see that as overly skeptical, but the reality is not all police investigations are equal. Some are very thorough and professional. Others are second fiddle to authorities just trying to find someone to blame. And at the end of the day, there’s no good way for a family to know ahead of time which one they’re getting.
I’ll give a perfect example. Not long ago, a family came to use after a serious crash because authorities accused their loved one of not wearing their seatbelt. The family always knew this person to be very safety conscious, so that was a big red flag. Well, an independent accident reconstruction revealed the victim’s seatbelt was defective. The victim wore it properly, but it failed anyway. Put simply, authorities blamed the victim for something they had no control over.
While that specific example is rather unique, it’s all too common for victims and families to be unsatisfied with official investigations. Independent accident reconstructions can help pick up that slack. Either they’ll confirm everything police already know, or they’ll bring new information to light and set the record straight. I think any reasonable person should agree that’s a conclusion worth pursuing.
