UPDATE (June 21, 2023): Authorities have identified the man killed in the car accident as 18-year-old Julio Uribe. The driver of the vehicle in which Uribe was reportedly a passenger is said to be facing a pending charge for murder. No further information can be confirmed at this time.
Cleveland, TX — May 21, 2023, one person was fatally injured following a car accident at around 2:24 a.m. along U.S. Highway 59.
According to initial statements from the Cleveland Police Department, the incident started out in Montgomery County outside of Cleveland going into the city.
Authorities said they were trying to pull over a vehicle that was going along the U.S. 59/I-69. That vehicle apparently attempted to make a turn, but it went off the side of the road where overturned repeatedly. As a result of the crash, a passenger in the vehicle that overturned died due to their injuries.
Police allege that the driver got out of the wrecked vehicle and fled the scene on foot. It appears authorities arrested the suspected driver. Currently, additional details about the victim or potential charges are unclear as investigations are ongoing.
