Reeves County, TX — April 4, 2024, Juan Lopez and Luis Zamora were killed and one person was injured in a car accident at about 9:15 p.m. along S.H. 17.
According to authorities, 22-year-old Juan Lopez and 41-year-old Luis Zamora were traveling in a southbound GMC Sierra pickup truck on State Highway 17 in the vicinity north of Davidson Road when the accident took place.
Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, a northbound Ford F-150 occupied by a 42-year-old woman attempted to pass a northbound 18-wheeler at an unsafe time using the southbound lane of the highway. This resulted in a head-on collision between the two pickup trucks. Both Lopez and Zamora incurred fatal injuries as a result of the wreck. The woman from the Ford sustained suspected severe injuries; she was transported to a local medical facility by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment.
