How Did This Accident Occur?

The average person might look at this accident and just assume that the pedestrian was in the wrong place at the wrong time. However, I’ve had the opportunity over the last three decades to analyze hundreds of pedestrian-involved car accidents. I’ve seen plenty of cases where underlying issues that are not immediately obvious end up being unearthed by the investigation. As such, I’m not about to just jump to conclusions, and I’d caution others from doing so, as well.

It’s not that I know more about what happened in this accident than anyone else outside of the investigation. I just want to point out that, since the investigation is not yet complete, we don’t have all the details. We don’t know whether or not the pedestrian was attempting to cross the road and the car experienced brake failure. Nor do we know if the pedestrian was on the shoulder or the sidewalk but the vehicle had a tire blowout or steering malfunction and that led to the collision.

If the investigators are as thorough and openminded as they should be, then they will ensure an in-depth vehicle inspection gets done; that way underlying mechanical malfunctions or product defects can be unearthed. Should the authorities’ investigation, for whatever reason, seem to be lacking, a third party investigation can always step in and take up the slack in order to make sure that all the bases are covered.
