Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

With a crash like this, it’s important to get as much evidence as possible and let the facts speak for themselves. I’ve lost count of how many times someone has come to me about a crash like this because authorities just jumped to conclusions rather than spending time conducting thorough investigations. While some departments understand the importance of consider even unlikely possible factors, many others rush officers to move on to other responsibilities, leaving those officers to either go with their gut or move on without actually getting any clear answers.

It’s one of the reasons I’ve always talked about how helpful independent accident reconstructionists are. I’ve had many cases where their efforts helped confirm authorities actually did a good job in their investigations. Other times, independent investigations showed authorities missed crucial details, so we were finally able to bring the truth to light. What an investigation might show here isn’t for me to say, but I’d never suggest simply waiting around for police to get answers without at least checking in on their progress—or lack thereof.
