I want to be clear up front that I don’t have specific information about this crash that isn’t already available to the public. However, there are specific details not being addressed here which raise serious red flags to me.
In short, I looked up this intersection. The most up-to-date images I see show that a vehicle turning left from northeast lanes would be going toward what seems to be a dead-end, off-road area at a railroad crossing. Going left from southwest lanes would go to Scott Road. Police didn’t specify who made the left turn here, but the odds seem to far favor the scenario that a vehicle would be turning left onto Scott Road. Is it possible, then, that an 18-wheeler failed to yield and caused this deadly crash?
Now, people would probably think that such a serious event like that wouldn’t have such ambiguous reports. However, it would surprise people how often authorities were unable to give a deadly truck accident the attention it needed. I’ve handled hundreds of commercial vehicle accident cases, and they require a significant amount of time, proper equipment, and experienced personnel to thoroughly investigate. Not all departments have access to those resources. As such, even accidents that may seem like a top priority can end up slipping through the cracks.
Like I said, I don’t have anymore information about this crash than anyone else at this time. Any number of extenuating circumstances can occur that would make this crash far more unique than others. My point here is simply to highlight that despite the serious red flags surrounding these preliminary reports, there are still more questions than answers. It’s important that a family in need of those answers can be sure there are investigators handling the accident that can actually get them. Considering how few details are available about this crash, I have to wonder if authorities alone can guarantee that level of scrutiny.
