Beaumont, TX — August 29, 2025, Jose Martinez Torres was killed as the result of a car accident that happened around 9:24 p.m. on South MLK Parkway.
Investigators said in initial statements that the accident took place off the corner of the South ML King Parkway and Park Street intersection.
According to officials, 75-year-old Jose Martinez Torres was on foot at the time in the area of ML King Parkway. In a series of events not entirely clear, a vehicle struck Martinez Torres. Jose Martinez Torres was killed as a result.
Authorities say that they spoke with the driver. No further information is available at this time.

One of my biggest concerns with pedestrian accidents is if they’re really getting the attention they need. Unfortunately, some departments see these incidents as a low priority. This can leave officers without the time and resources they need to actually dig into the evidence. The end result is often families being left in the dark with unanswered questions. Police here may be taking steps to ensure that doesn’t happen, but it would be far from the first time if a crash like this was better off in the hands of independent investigators.
