Fort Bend County, TX — January 13, 2025, Jose Lopez was killed as the result of an alleged intoxicated driver accident at 1:15 a.m. along Addicks Clodine Road.
Initial details about the accident say that it happened west of Houston near Mission Bend at the intersection of Addicks Clodine Road and Bissonnet Street.
According to officials, 57-year-old Jose Lopez was in a southbound Infiniti. At the intersection, the Infiniti and a Toyota Highlander going westbound collided. Due to this collision, Lopez was killed.
Authorities allege that the driver of the Toyota was driving while intoxicated. Charges were recommended. No further information can be confirmed at this time.

When a crash involves an alleged intoxicated driver, the focus is usually on the individual behind the wheel. But an important question that often goes unasked is where that driver got their alcohol and whether they were over-served before the crash.
Texas dram shop laws make it illegal for bars, restaurants, or other alcohol providers to serve alcohol to someone who is obviously intoxicated. If an alleged intoxicated driver had been drinking at an establishment that ignored obvious signs of impairment, that business may share responsibility for what happened here. These laws exist not just to hold businesses accountable but to encourage responsible alcohol service and prevent deadly crashes like this one.
The reason this is important is accountability.
