UPDATE (June 24, 2024): The man who lost his life as a result of this accident has been identified as Jose Carreno, age 21.
UPDATE (April 1, 2024): Recent reports have been released which clarify what occurred leading up to and during this accident. According to these reports, two men—ages 21 and 22—were traveling in an eastbound Toyota Tacoma along S.H. 71 in the vicinity west of Old Bastrop Road when the accident took place.
Officials indicate that, for unknown reasons, the pickup truck failed to safely maintain its lane of travel. It reportedly veered left into the center median before overcorrecting and swerving across both of the eastbound lanes before leaving the roadway completely. There, it entered a roadside ditch and apparently vaulted, going airborne and overturning. It rolled an unknown number of times before coming to a stop resting on his wheels and facing southeast on the south side of the highway.
Del Valle, TX — March 15, 2024, one person was killed an another was injured in a rollover car accident just before 12:30 a.m. along State Highway 71.
According to authorities, the accident occurred in the eastbound lanes of S.H. 71 at the Tucker Hill Lane intersection.
The causal factors that led to this rollover accident are still unclear. Officials indicate that one victim was reportedly entrapped in the wreckage and had to be extricated upon the arrival of emergency personnel. That victim incurred apparently critical injuries and was transported to a local medical facility by EMS in order to receive immediate treatment. Another victim was declared deceased at the scene, despite the life saving measures taken. No other injuries have been reported.
Additional details pertaining to this incident—including the identities of the victims—are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
