At the Highway 71 intersection, the vehicle somehow ended up going off the northeast corner of the crossing. There, Petty’s vehicle crashed into a ditch. No further information can be confirmed right now.

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

I would hope to see that authorities were able to make more progress in their investigations behind the scenes seeing as how public statements still leave some unanswered questions. Unfortunately, I have families call me all the time because authorities ended up moving on from their situation before actually getting the whole story.

It’s one of the challenges with single-vehicle wrecks that they aren’t usually seen as a high priority, so investigators tend to let them slip through the cracks. This then leaves victims and families to seek out alternative avenues to getting the answers they deserve. Like I said, authorities here may be on the ball, but it would sadly be unsurprising to find out otherwise.
