Henderson County, TX — January 1, 2025, John Campuzano was injured in a single-car accident at about 9 p.m. on F.M. 2495 east of Athens.
A preliminary accident report indicates that a 2013 GMC Terrain was headed west near Colombia Drive when it apparently left the road and overturned.
Driver John Campuzano, 21, suffered serious injuries in the crash near Smith Lake, according to the report.

First, did the authorities thoroughly investigate the crash? A single-vehicle rollover suggests a possible loss of control, but it’s important to determine why the vehicle left the roadway. Were there any hazards present — such as sharp curves, poor lighting, uneven pavement or roadside drop-offs — that may have contributed? Was the road marked appropriately, and were conditions (such as wet or icy pavement) documented? A complete scene analysis is necessary to identify whether road design or conditions may have played a role in the incident.
Second, has anyone considered whether a vehicle defect may have contributed to the crash or its severity? The 2013 GMC Terrain involved in this crash should be carefully inspected. Issues such as brake failure, steering problems or suspension faults could all result in a sudden loss of control.
