Amarillo, TX — June 4, 2023, Jo Ann Rivera, Gabriel Rivera, and two teenagers were injured following a car accident at 2:06 a.m. on U.S. Highway 287.

Preliminary statements about the crash indicate that it happened in the area of U.S. 287 and F.M. 1912. According to officials with the Potter County Sheriff’s Office, the crash involved two vehicles on eastbound lanes of the highway.

Authorities say that one of the vehicles was a Kia Sedona driven by 59-year-old Jo Ann Rivera. Riding in the vehicle were 61-year-old Gabriel Rivera and two teenagers, ages 17 and 15. As they were traveling along U.S. 287, it appears that a Land Rover did not slow down in time and crashed into the back of the Sedona. This sent the Kia toward the median while the Land Rover swerved off the right side of the road.

Due to the collision, details suggest that Jo Ann and Gabriel Rivera as well as the two teenagers in the Kia all had injuries believed to be incapacitating. No other injuries were confirmed. At this time, it is unclear if factors such as distraction or alcohol led to the collision. Details from authorities do not yet confirm the cause of the crash.
