Jesus Tranquilino Garcia, 2 Injured in Truck Accident in Crandall, TX

Traffic in the area was allegedly slowing. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, an 18-wheeler truck and trailer collided with the rear-end of a Toyota Corolla. The Corolla was pushed to the right side of the bridge while the 18-wheeler continued forward, crashing into a Chevrolet Express van occupied by 31-year-old Jesus Garcia. This collision pushed the van forward, causing another collision between the front-end of the van and the rear-end of a BMW occupied by two women ages 88 and 54. The 18-wheeler swerved to the right and then back toward the left, striking the front of the BMW before crashing through the bridge barricade, coming to a stop with it’s back end leaning on the bridge from above.

Garcia and the 55-year-old man who had been the sole occupant of the 18-wheeler incurred suspected severe injuries. The 88-year-old woman from the BMW was also moderately hurt, according to reports. They were each transported to local medical facilities by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment. No other injuries have been reported. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

When people hear about accidents like this one, it’s easy for them to assume they are a result of simple driver error. However, in my experience, accidents involving large trucks often require thorough investigations to understand all contributing factors.

First, it’s essential to determine what led to the 18-wheeler colliding with the rear-end of the Toyota Corolla. Was the truck driver distracted, fatigued, or experiencing a mechanical failure? Gathering data from vehicle event recorders, reviewing traffic camera footage, and analyzing witness statements can provide crucial insights into these questions.

Next, the role of the trucking company must be scrutinized. Was the driver properly trained and following all safety protocols? Trucking companies have a responsibility to ensure their drivers are well-prepared for the demands of the road. If the company neglected proper training or allowed unsafe driving practices, they might share responsibility for the crash.

Additionally, it’s important to examine the maintenance and condition of the truck involved. Was the vehicle properly maintained? Mechanical failures, such as brake malfunctions or tire blowouts, can significantly contribute to accidents. Reviewing maintenance records and conducting thorough inspections of the vehicle can reveal whether such issues played a role.

Investigations must go beyond the immediate crash scene to uncover the full story. This includes looking into the truck driver’s logs, evaluating their driving history, and consulting with accident reconstruction experts. By conducting a comprehensive investigation, we can ensure that all responsible parties are held accountable.

Ultimately, the goal is to uncover the truth and provide answers to those affected by the crash. Even if it requires conducting an independent investigation to obtain vital evidence, it is crucial to consider every factor to ensure that those impacted by the crash receive the clarity and closure they deserve.
