San Marcos, TX — April 26, 2024, Jeannie Lewis and one other were injured following an alleged drunk driver accident at around 7:00 p.m. on Hunter Road.

Authorities said in preliminary statements that the accident took place at the intersection of Hunter Road and Reimer Avenue.

It appears that 82-year-old Jeannie Lewis was in a Buick Encore going southwest along Hunter Road. At Reimer, officials say an oncoming GMC Acadia failed to yield and began a left turn toward Reimer. As a result, the vehicles collided nearly head-on. Both Jeannie Lewis and the GMC driver reportedly had serious injuries due to the crash.

Right now, details allege that the GMC driver was under the influence of alcohol. If that’s true, are authorities finding out where that alcohol came from? There might be more than just the drunk driver on the hook for this. Many drunk driving wrecks involve negligent bars, but unfortunately they too often get away with their behavior because authorities never bother looking for them.

For instance, I had a case not long ago where a drunk driver went into oncoming lanes and hit a family head-on, nearly killing a kid. We were able to retrace the drunk driver’s steps to a bar where he was illegally over-served. It got to the point he could barely walk, let alone drive, yet servers continued pouring drinks without any regard for the havoc it could (and eventually would) cause.

The problem there was that we were the only ones investigating the bar. Police simply moved on once they charged the drunk driver, nearly allowing a negligent establishment to continue putting the community at risk. Now, I can’t say if that happened here because I don’t have any more evidence than what’s currently public. The question is if authorities no more than what was simply at the crash scene.
