Orange, TX — January 13, 2025, Jason Will was killed following a bicycle versus truck accident at approximately 3:00 a.m. along Lutcher Drive.
According to authorities, 31-year-old Jason Will was traveling on a bicycle on Lutcher Drive (the I.H. 10 service road) in the vicinity of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive when the accident took place.
The cause of the accident remains unclear. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, the bicycle was struck by a truck as it was exiting the interstate. Investigators should assess physical evidence such as tire marks, vehicle damage, and the bicycle’s final position to reconstruct the sequence of events. Witness statements or any available surveillance footage from nearby businesses or traffic cameras could provide crucial insights into the actions of both parties leading up to the collision, including visibility, speed, and the movements of the truck and cyclist.
Second, has anyone considered whether a vehicle defect might have contributed to the crash? Mechanical issues, such as brake or steering malfunctions, could impair a driver’s ability to control their vehicle, especially when exiting a highway. Similarly, the bicycle should be examined to determine whether its lighting, brakes, or other components were functioning properly at the time of the crash.
