How Did This Accident Occur?
There are certainly common factors that can lead to single-vehicle accidents, such as fatigue or distracted driving. But it’s important that investigations cover all possible factors—even unlikely ones.
For instance, how well does the speed limit work on this stretch of road? This is something I rarely see anyone talk about. People don’t really consider the fact that speed limits give drivers the impression they can travel at a certain speed safely. Sometimes, though, that speed limit fails to take into account curves, sight lines, lighting, and traffic flow. So if a locality has a speed limit that isn’t actually safe, it can lead to serious accidents.
Maybe that isn’t what happened here, but has it been ruled out?
