Wilson County, TN — February 27, 2023, Jared Crumby was killed after an accident where a pickup collided with an 18-wheeler.

Authorities with the Tennessee Highway Patrol said that the crash took place at around 10:15 p.m. in the Mt. Juliet area. It appears that 43-year-old Jared Crumby was in a Chevy Silverado pickup traveling westbound on I-40. Under unclear circumstances, his vehicle crashed into an Amazon tractor-trailer that was reportedly parked on the roadside due to mechanical problems. After the impact the pickup rolled off the road and stopped on the grassy shoulder.

Crumby sustained fatal injuries due to the crash. No other injuries were reported. Additional details surrounding the crash are unavailable at this time.

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

Something I didn’t foresee before starting this career three decades ago was just how often something like this can happen without the victim actually doing anything wrong. From mechanical issues to medical conditions to road hazards to tire issues to lack of lighting, there are so many factors that rarely get the attention they need. People are generally more likely to just blame the victim without actually waiting for the facts.

The problem is when authorities do this, as well. While many officers understand the importance of letting the evidence speak for itself, others either lack that experience or don’t get the support they need from their superiors to get the job done properly. My hope is authorities here have the means and prudence to ensure this man’s loved ones get the answers they deserve.
