Accident Report
April 22, 2026, James Reyna and two others were injured due to a car accident at approximately 1:45 p.m. along F.M. 740.
According to authorities, 71-year-old James Reyna was traveling in a northwest bound GMC Sierra pickup truck on Rainbow Drive at the Farm to Market 740 intersection when the accident took place. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, the pickup failed to yield the right-of-way as it attempted a left turn onto F.M. 740. A collision consequently occurred between the front-left quarter of the GMC and the front-end of a northeast bound Nissan Altima occupied by two women ages 43 and 22.
Reyna reportedly sustained serious injuries over the course of the accident. The two women from the Altima suffered minor injuries, as well, according to reports. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
How Did This Accident Occur?
Most people will take one look at this accident and be quick to point the finger at the victim, assuming driver error must have been behind it. I’ve been in this line of business for over thirty years, though. In that time, I’ve seen plenty of similar cases that ended up having evidence of less likely causes unearthed by the investigation, contrary to how things appeared on the surface. That is why, as a general rule, I am slow to jump to conclusions.
That’s not to say that I know more about this specific accident than anyone else outside of the investigation. As far as we know, driver error—whether it was caused by fatigue, distraction, impairment, et cetera—has yet to be ruled out. However, I would like to point out that, hypothetically, an issue with the GMC could have been behind the crash. For example, what if the throttle had somehow gotten stuck in the open position? Or maybe it experienced brake failure at a critical time? An in-depth vehicle inspection would bring to light any mechanical malfunctions or product defects that played a role in the wreck which otherwise might have flown under the radar.
Now, I do understand that those types of inspections—done by trained professionals in a laboratory setting—are not routinely done, so a special request might have to be made. If the authorities, for whatever reason, do not take that step, then a third party investigation can always be called upon to do so, instead. That way, all the bases are covered. After all, the people affected by this accident deserve to be given a clear and detailed understanding of not only how it took place, but why. That kind of clarity simply can’t be provided by surface-level investigation.
